Natural and synthetic graphite

NATURAL FLAKE GRAPHITE Flake graphite forms naturally and is highly graphitized It is soft, very crystalline, dark grey and greasy to the touch. It is a medium temperature (200-250 °C) lubricant, and decreases both friction level and wear, but may increase fading. The lubricant properties of graphite depend on the air moisture, since the water molecules decrease the interaction between the graphene layers that compose graphite. SYNTHETTIC GRAPHITE Synthetic graphite is a manufactured product made by high-temperature treatment of amorphous carbon materials. The primary feedstocks used for making synthetic graphite are calcined petroleum coke and coal tar pitch, both of which are composed of highly graphitizable forms of carbon. The lubricant properties of graphite depend on the air moisture, since the water molecules decrease the interaction between the graphene layers that compose graphite.
