Carbon fibre

Carbon fibers are essentially composed of carbon, other elements come from the precursor. Depending upon the precursor to make the fiber, carbon fiber may be turbostratic or graphitic. Turbostratic carbon fibers derived from polyacrylonitirle fibers tend to have high tensile strength, whereas heat-treated mesophase-pitch-derived (graphitic) carbon fibers have high Young's modulus and high thermal conductivity.
